The Approach

Therapy shaped around your story.

You are not a diagnosis to be managed. You are a person with a history, a context, and a capacity for change that therapy exists to support.

My work draws on EMDR, narrative therapy, and person-centered practice — approaches that take seriously both what happened to you and the meaning you've made of it. We move at a pace that respects your nervous system, not a protocol's timeline.

Having spent seven years answering 911 calls before becoming a clinician, I understand pressure, vicarious trauma, and what it costs to hold steady for everyone else. That lived experience informs how I show up — grounded, direct, and unhurried.

Sessions are fully virtual, so care fits into a real life rather than competing with it.

Areas of Focus

Where this work goes deep.

A focused practice means specialized care. These are the areas I'm trained to hold with depth and discernment.

01

Trauma & EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing — trained through an EMDRIA-approved program — to help the nervous system release what it's been bracing against, so the past stops living in the present.

02

Anxiety & Depression

Evidence-based, compassionate support for the patterns that drain energy and narrow life — building room to breathe, decide, and move forward.

03

First Responder Wellness

Specialized care for dispatchers, officers, and frontline workers — informed by years inside emergency communications and the realities of the work.

04

BIPOC & LGBTQ+ Affirming

A space where identity is held with respect, not explained or defended — affirming care that understands community as part of healing.

Latosha Haywood

LCPC, NCC · Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor

Born and raised in Englewood, I'm a lifelong Chicagoan and first-generation college graduate. I've spent over fourteen years helping others — first across nonprofit and community work, then seven years on the 911 dispatch floor, holding people steady through their worst moments. Clinical work grew from that same calling. The community that shaped me and the years spent serving it ground a practice built on presence, honesty, and respect for what people carry.

I hold a master's in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from DePaul University and a bachelor's in English from Loyola University Chicago. My training spans EMDR, narrative therapy, and person-centered approaches, with a focus on trauma, anxiety, depression, and the wellbeing of those who serve others.

Above all, I believe healing is rooted in community and grounded in care — and that good therapy makes room for both.

Common Questions

Good to know before we begin.

How long are sessions?

Individual sessions are typically 50 minutes — the standard therapy hour. Your first session may run a little longer to allow time for intake and paperwork.

What should I expect in the first session?

The first session is an intake — a chance for us to get to know each other, review your paperwork, talk about what brought you in, and what you're hoping to get from our work together. There's no pressure to share more than you're comfortable with, and it's your time to ask me questions too.

What is EMDR, and what is it good for?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy that helps your brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their emotional intensity. It's most researched for trauma and PTSD, and also helps with anxiety, panic, grief, and the lingering effects of painful experiences. I'm trained through an EMDRIA-approved program.

Who can you see as a telehealth client?

I'm currently licensed only in Illinois, so I can see Illinois residents and people physically located in Illinois at the time of session. State rules say therapy takes place where you're physically located — so you'll need to be in Illinois when we meet.

What's your cancellation policy?

I ask for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed appointments, are charged the full session fee — insurance doesn't cover missed appointments, so this is your responsibility.

Ready when you are.

However you'd like to begin. Book a free consultation if you'd like to learn more and see whether we're a good fit — or jump right in and schedule your first session.
